Suspended license leads to cocaine arrest

Driving on a suspended license wound up landing a Brownsburg man in the Putnam County Jail on drug charges Saturday.

Deputy Scott Ducker was on patrol in southern Putnam County when he stopped a vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. 231. A license plate check showed that the registered owner had a suspended license.

Ducker stopped the driver, 21-year-old MacAllister L. Gutzweiler of Brownsburg, north of Interstate 70 near County Road 700 South.

While speaking with driver Ducker and Deputy Brian Helmer reported they smelled the odor of marijuana.

A search of the vehicle recovered about half an ounce of marijuana in multiple bags. Also located were two small baggies containing what Gutzweiler admitted to be cocaine and several prescription pills.

Additionally, the deputies located electronic scales and a grinder located in the vicinity of the narcotics.

Gutzweiler was arrested and charged with dealing cocaine and marijuana and possession of the prescription narcotics. He was also cited for driving while suspended.

On Monday, the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges, dropping any dealing charges. Gutzweiler still faces four charges, including Level 6 felony possession of cocaine, two counts of Class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
