IHSAA draws sectional pairings for tennis, soccer tournaments

The Indiana High School Athletic Association boys’ tennis sectional tournaments will take place this week, while the boys’ and girls’ soccer tourneys will be next week.

Pairings have been drawn for all three events.

In tennis, South Putnam enters the Northview Sectional as the defending champion and is 12-0 in dual matches this season.

The Eagles edged Owen Valley 3-2 to win the WIC title, and also won narrow victories over Greencastle and the hosts this season in a very competitive field.

The Eagles will open the tourney at 5 p.m. Wednesday by meeting South Vermillion. The winner plays Northview in Thursday’s second match, following the Greencastle-Owen Valley match.

The championship match between Thursday’s winners is Saturday morning.

The boys’ soccer tourney will follow a Monday-Wednesday-Saturday format next week, while the girls’ tourney will be played Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday.

Greencastle hosts a Class 2A sectional involving all Western Indiana Conference teams. The Tiger Cubs won the tourney last year, which was played at Sullivan.

Northview won the WIC title on Saturday.

In Class 1A, North Putnam plays the host team in next Wednesday’s first semifinal match.

Covenant Christian was the sectional champ last year.

Both Greencastle and North Putnam are in Class 1A in the girls’ tourney, being played again at Southmont.

The Mounties defeated Greencastle in last year’s title match, and the teams will revisit that rivalry in Thursday’s second semifinal match.
