Clover girls, Cub boys win MS cross country titles
Cloverdale’s girls pushed the first three runners across the finish line to win the Putnam County cross country title on Tuesday evening, while Greencastle has the top two finishers in the boys’ race in claiming first place.
Cloverdale eighth-grader Ella Szczerbik won the girls’ race by about 20 seconds over teammate Abby Nees. Aliyah Maldanado, a Cloverdale sixth-grader, placed third.
Greencastle was second in the team standings, six points behind.
Charlie Menzel of Greencastle won the boys’ race in 12:29.1, edging teammate Andrew Adams by 12 seconds.
The Cubs had 29 points, with North Putnam placing second with a team score of 43.
