Paving projects to close roads around county

Monday, October 1, 2018

The contractor performing hot mix paving for the Putnam County Highway Department has left itself a tight schedule for doing nearly 15 miles of paving work.

Dave O’Mara Contractor was selected to perform the paving of 14.73 miles back in late June, but no work on the roads commenced until Monday.

Now O’Mara has two weeks until its Oct. 15 deadline, so new roads will be closed daily throughout the county in the coming days, weather permitting.

The contractor will be doing full-width paving, meaning the roads will be closed completely during the projects.

On Monday, County Road 650 East in Franklin Township between 675 East and State Road 236 was closed.

After completing work on 650 East on Tuesday morning, crews were set to continue on County Road 250 East in Jackson and Franklin townships between Roachdale and 1400 North.

On Wednesday, work was set to move to Floyd Township, where County Road 300 North is slated for paving between 325 East and 550 East. Work on 550 East is set for completion on Thursday

For the rest of Thursday, crews will work their way south into Marion Township, paving County Road 550 East between 50 South and Fillmore.

Two roads in Greencastle Township are on the agenda Friday. County Road 200 South will be paved from Zinc Mill Road past 100 East, which will also be paved from 200 South to the Greencastle city limits.

A schedule for the remaining roads to be paved in the county will be released later in the week.
