Tiger Cubs hang on to state ranking
Despite a 42-9 loss to Class 4A Northview last week, Greencastle’s football team saw its position relatively unchanged in the Indiana Football Coaches Association and Associated Press state rankings.
The 6-1 Tiger Cubs are 12th in the IFCA poll and 11th in the AP poll, reversing their spots in those two rankings last week.
Greencastle will play at North Putnam on Friday night for the Putnam County championship, and also for second place in the Western Indiana Conference West Division.
The North-Greencastle winner will play the winner of Friday’s Edgewood-Cascade game for third place in the WIC on Oct. 12.
Several area teams and potential sectional opponents continue to be ranked.
In Class 4A, Northview is tied for ninth in the AP poll and is 12th in the coaches’ poll.
Evansville Central, coached by former South Putnam boss Troy Burgess, suffered its first loss of the season last week and is now eighth in the AP poll and seventh in the coaches’ poll.
The Bears lost 47-27 to Evansville Memorial, the top-ranked 3A team.
In Class 3A, Sullivan is tied for 17th in the AP poll, while Danville is tied for 15th in the AP poll.
In Class 2A, potential North Putnam and Cloverdale sectional opponents Western Boone and Tipton are still undefeated.
WeBo is ranked first in both polls, while Tipton is second in the AP poll and fourth in the coaches’ poll.
In Class A, undefeated potential South Putnam sectional opponents Traders Point Christian and Covenant Christian are moving up.
Covenant Christian is No. 9 in the coaches’ poll and 10th in the AP poll. Traders Point Christian is 14th in the AP poll.
