County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 1:42 a.m. Jacob Anthony Ruffin, 21, Speedway, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Wednesday

• At 10:28 p.m. Thomas Medina, 40, Fort Wayne, was booked in on an Allen County warrant.

• At 8:20 p.m. Chris Lee Hutto, 41, Fillmore, was taken into custody on a pair of local warrants.

Tuesday

• At 4:48 p.m. Thomas Edward Schultheis, 52, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 4:38 p.m. Robert Gene Frietzsche, 57, Mooresville, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, Chase Allen Duff, 21, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Kyle Lee.

Duff was arrested at Casey’s on Bloomington Street for possession of methamphetamine and on a Putnam County warrant for resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana.

Duff was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One recent citation was written by City Police officers.

• At 3:51 a.m. Sunday, Dezman Butts, 18, Plainfield, was cited by Officer Luke Brown.

Stopped on State Road 240 near Calbert Way, Butts was ticketed for being an operator never licensed.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage accident.

• At 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Timothy Duncan, 60, Greencastle, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 1998 Oldsmobile 88 when a deer ran in front of him.

Both Duncan and a witness in another car said the deer ran north across the eastbound lane but then turned around in the grass median due to westbound traffic. The deer than ran back into the eastbound lanes, jumping and hitting Duncan’s car.

The car was towed. Deputy Tanner Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

•At 9:31 a.m. on Monday, GFD was called for a downed power line at the intersection of Rockville Road and Elizabeth Street. Units arrived at 9:39 and found a cable box on the road. The box was then removed. GFD was back in service at 9:46 a.m.

•At 1:47 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident without injuries located at 1152 Indianapolis Rd. Units arrived at 1:53 and cleaned up debris from the accident. They cleared the scene at 3:41 p.m.

•At 9:11 on Tuesday, GFD was called for a gas spill at the intersection of Zinc Mill Road and South Street. Units arrived at 9:18 and cleaned up the spill. The vehicle that had leaked the gasoline was then towed. GFD cleared the scene at 9:45 p.m.

•At 9:29 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Chiyoda Corp. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:43 and found that the alarm system was in maintenance, but was not in test mode when they arrived. GFD cleared the scene at 9:59 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed eight medical assists and had one disregard during this time.
