Freddie Mendoza

The trio of Freddie Mendoza, Kenny Phelps and Steve Snyder will be the feature performers for Jazz at the Duck on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Mendoza is professor of jazz trombone at Ball State University and a major presence on the central Indiana jazz scene. His playing often pays homage to the great trombonists of the jazz tradition such as J.J. Johnson, Curtis Fuller and Slide Hampton.

Joining him on drums will be Phelps, a major talent in the Indianapolis (and world) music community.

DePauw’s own jazz ensemble director Steve Snyder rounds out the group on organ.

Jazz at the Duck takes place from 8:30-10:30 p.m. at The Fluttering Duck inside the Inn at DePauw each Thursday evening that DePauw University is in session.

There will be no Jazz at The Duck on Thursday, Oct. 18 due to fall break. The series will resume Oct. 25 with Blue Django.
