PUTNAMVILLE -- A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Putnam County Tuesday evening resulted in an overturned trailer and a trip to the hospital for an Arkansas man.

At 5:17 p.m., emergency agencies responded to a rollover crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 38-mile marker, three miles west of Cloverdale.

The investigation by Indiana State Trooper David Cox Jr. revealed that 54-year-old Dwight Norton of Huntsville, Ark., was westbound in the passing lane when his trailer reportedly began to swerve, causing his 2001 Chevrolet pickup and trailer to leave the roadway and the trailer overturn.

Norton was taken to Putnam County Hospital for treatment of back pain.

The driver was also cited for no valid driver's license and no vehicle insurance.

Assisting were troopers Justin Bell, David Petrowski, Courtland Woodruff and Ian Portteus as well as the Cloverdale Police Department, Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department, Putnam County Operation Life and Curtis Wrecker Service.

  • No driver's license. No vehicle insurance. What was hauled on the trailer? How many drivers are on our highways with no license or vehicle insurance? More check point stops are necessary day and night.

The driver was cited for the infractions, but was simply released ? Who was this man? Did he have any outstanding warrants? No investigation was reported in this article.
