Sheriff’s Dept.

Two personal-injury accidents were investigated recently by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

• At 4:51 p.m. Friday, a one-vehicle rollover accident sent Jayme L. Barber, 40, Greencastle, to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, with multiple injuries.

Barber was reportedly southbound on County Road 275 East, nearing its intersection with CR 350 South when her 2003 Ford Escape left the rain-slickened roadway and rolled over completely twice before landing on the passenger’s side and then tipping back over onto its tires, the accident report noted.

Witnesses said Barber rolled out of the vehicle onto the ground when the driver’s side door came open due to damage to her SUV.

Deputy Scott Ducker reported that Barber’s daughter, Kaitlyn, 7, a backseat passenger in a child restraint, was uninjured in the accident. She was, however, also taken to Methodist Hospital for precautionary measures.

• At 9:47 p.m. Thursday, a one-vehicle accident in Russell Township sent Andrew L. Sheets, 33, Roachdale, to St. Vincent Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Sheets was found unconscious, still belted in behind the wheel of his 2004 Ford F-150 truck after it struck a tree along U.S. 231, just south of the Putnam-Montgomery county line, Deputy Riley Houghton reported.

Sheets was reportedly southbound at a high rate of speed, according to two witnesses to the accident, including one who told Deputy Houghton that Sheets “flew past me” near State Road 234, while another noted that the truck was weaving all over the road, traveling at an estimated 65 mph as it entered Putnam County.

The southbound truck went off the west side of U.S. 231 for about 60 feet when it appeared as though Sheets overcorrected and the truck slid sideways, crossing the centerline and careening off the east side of the roadway, where it struck a tree just north of County Road 1350 North.

Operation Life transported the victim to a nearby landing zone from which Stat Flight emergency medical helicopter flew him to St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, where he reportedly remained as of Tuesday morning.

City Police

Two recent citations were issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 10 p.m. Sunday, Janae Dashillas, 22, Terre Haute, was ticketed for speeding by Sgt. Eric Vaughan.

Stopped along Capital Drive, Dashillas was cited for 50 mph in a 30-mph zone.

• At 5:42 a.m. Thursday, Troy Strader, 29, Brazil, was cited by Officer Luke Brown.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road near Warren Drive, Strader was ticketed for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.
