Fall carnival moved to inside to Inn at DePauw

Monday, October 29, 2018

With a 90-percent chance of rain in the forecast for Wednesday, the fall carnival set to coincide with downtown trick-or-treating has been moved to an inside location.

Originally slated for the Vine Street parking lot from 4-6 p.m. on Halloween, the event will now take place in the Inn at DePauw social center.

Representing Main Street Greencastle, Jenny Sullivan of Eitel’s and Co. Florist made the announcement late Monday morning, saying that Inn at DePauw General Manager Michele Faison had offered the use of her facility.

“We aren’t going to let a little rain disappoint all the families that normally join us for Halloween fun,” Sullivan said.

Among the fun at the carnival will be games, a photo booth, candy and surprises.

With the location change, the Vine Street lot will be open for parking.

Some downtown businesses will still be set up on and around the square for the normal downtown trick-or-treating routine from 4-6 p.m.

Among these will be a new addition to downtown Halloween festivities — a “Spooky Trail” presented by Black Lumber Co. and North Salem State Bank. The kid-friendly trail will also be open from 4-6 p.m. in the former G.C. Murphy/Remedies/Bright Futures building at 12 E. Washington St.

In addition to the downtown activities, traditional trick-or-treating will take place throughout the county as follows:

-- Greencastle -- 6-8 p.m.

-- Cloverdale -- 5-8:30 p.m.

-- Fillmore -- 5-8 p.m.

-- Bainbridge -- 6-8 p.m.

-- Roachdale -- 6-8 p.m. with VFW costume contest (registration at 5 p.m. and judging at 8).

-- Russellville -- 6-8 p.m.

As is the custom locally, residents welcoming trick-or-treaters are urged to turn on their porch light during the appropriate period. Likewise, participants should not go up to houses that do not have a light on.
