Florence Gertrude Kennedy Skelton

Florence Skelton of Crawfordsville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 at her home, at the age of 95.

Born Aug. 31, 1923, the daughter of Raymond and Evaleen Hilligoss Kennedy.

She graduated from Ben Davis High School and Indiana Business College in Indianapolis.

Florence met Charles W. Skelton of Roachdale while working at Prestolite Battery in Indianapolis. They were married on Aug. 31, 1945. Shortly afterward, they moved to live and farm in Roachdale for more than 80 years.

As a farm wife and homemaker, Florence helped on the farm, raised three children and was an active member of the Roachdale Christian Church and Roachdale Town and Country Homemakers Club.

Florence also worked at Thomas/Hendricks/CCI/TDS telephone companies for more than 20 years. She loved working jigsaw puzzles and playing euchre.

She and Charles were members of the Greencastle, Lebanon, Cloverdale, Bainbridge euchre clubs as well as playing at the VFW.

Following Charles' death in October 2012, Florence moved to Crawfordsville. She continued to play euchre at the Senior Community Center and worked a different jigsaw puzzle just about every day.

She is survived by her children, Phyllis Skelton Stafford of Jacksonville, Fla.; Patricia Skelton Claycomb and her husband Estell, of Crawfordsville, and Charles Wayne Skelton II and his wife Irene (Buckles) of Crawfordsville. She had six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be on 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at Roachdale Christian Church, 1 N. Walnut St., Roachdale, with Pastor Glen McFarland officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Dover Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Roachdale Christian Church, envelopes will be provided.
