First Friday successes owed to many
To the Editor:
Another season of Main Street Greencastle (MSG) First Fridays have come to a close. There are many people who need to be thanked for such a successful year; too many to mention.
We have seen this event grow annually since its inception five years ago, and we couldn’t have done it without the help from many individuals and downtown business owners. Our last event was held on Oct. 5, and we’re glad we could host the Chamber for their Taste of Putnam County event.
Another success that night was a new venue, the “Political Dunk Tank,” where we asked politicians from both parties to participate and help us raise funds for our organization. I would personally like to thank those who came and helped us raise over $300 for our cause. Participants in the booth include State Sen. John Crane, County Commissioner Rick Woodall, Russell Harvey, Kim Fidler and Beau Baird.
In the world of local politics MSG tries very hard to remain politically neutral. We love civic engagement and realize both parties have deep seeded beliefs and feelings. We thank both parties for their willingness to participate with our organization to better the Greencastle community and the greater Putnam County. We wanted all this be in good fun and know that it takes all of us working together to make our community stronger. Thanks again to the individuals and both parties who participated and their willingness to partner with our fundraising efforts while splashing a little fun at ourselves. We are grateful for these partnerships and for their participation and friendship. I am particularly proud of how collegial both parties were toward each other that night, and the true camaraderie that was shown between all that participated and were involved. It was a joy working with all of our dunk-tank participants.
Again, I want to thank all of those who are committed to Main Street Greencastle and our tight-knit community. A special thank you goes to the City of Greencastle and Mayor Dory whose financial and physical support are invaluable to us. And all of this wouldn’t be possible without the special efforts of MSG Director Tami Van Rensselaer, who has been involved with First Fridays since the beginning.
Lastly, I want to thank the community for coming downtown to celebrate each of our First Fridays with us from April to October, and we hope to see you all next year.
