GHS to rock the house this weekend
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical “School of Rock” hits Greencastle High School’s Parker Auditorium this weekend.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 15-17. All seats are $10.
Based on the 2003 film of the same name starring Jack Black, the musical follows Dewey Finn (played by Addison Hughes), an out-of-work rock singer and guitarist after his band No Vacancy (led by Parker Black as Theo) kicks Dewey out of his own band.
Hard up for money, Dewey pretends to be his best friend Ned Schneebly (played by Michael White) in order to steal a substitute teaching position from Ned at Horace Green, a prestigious prep school.
Upon meeting the alias “Ned,” Horace Green Principal Rosalie Mullins (Lauren Hopper) warns Dewey that “Ned” will be expected to meet the school’s high standards.
Dewey’s 12 students are immediately wary of him, so student Summer Hathaway (Winter Prewitt) explains to “Mr. Schneebly” how the classroom operates. Disgusted by this rigid system, Dewey is afraid he has made a mistake until he hears the students playing instruments in music class. Amazed by their ability, he decides to create a new rock band using his students as singers, musicians, roadies, etc.
Back-up singers Marcy (Gillian Monnett) and Shonelle (Jacie Bumgardner) come up with the name for the band -- The School of Rock.
Dewey’s musicians in his new band are Zack (played by Donovan Asbell), Freddy (Eli Hardwick), Kade (Jack Howard) and Lawrence (Michael Thede). Shy Tomika (Becca George) is a lead singer, while Billy (Ben Staggers) is the band’s stylist.
Sophie (Morgan Negley) and Madison (Makayla Long) act as roadies, while Mason (Tyler Hopper) is in charge of tech.
Other students playing roles are Paige Kaiser as Ned’s girlfriend Patty, Ethan Tuggle, John Brook and Connor Barkus as the other members of No Vacancy, and Jacob Wadler as band contest emcee. Sydney Anderson portrays Stella and Police Officer, while Aaron Geiger and Emma Tobin play security guards. Acting as Horace Green teachers and parents are Kayde Brook, Carter Brown, TJ Holliday, Ethan Mooney, Amelia Mathis, Gaven Bingman, Connor Crary, Gabi Merrell, Rain Minartz, Emaline Tesmer, Izzy Cafouras, John Brook, Kaiden Knight, Conner Shepherd, Hope Roberts and Sam Funk.
GHS theater director Bethany Bax is directing the show with set design and construction by Amie Bailey and music direction by GHS choir director Jake Gadomski. Morgan Asher is the musical accompanist.
