Firewood available to cut at Turkey Run, Shades state parks

Monday, November 26, 2018

The public can cut certain downed trees in designated areas at Turkey Run and Shades state parks daily from Nov. 28 through Feb. 28.

Trees eligible for firewood have fallen as a result of natural causes or have been dropped by property staff. They are along roadsides or in public areas such as campsites and picnic areas.

The cost of one pickup-truck load is $10. All proceeds will be used for resource management and restoration efforts, including replacement of trees in campgrounds and other public areas.

Permits are available at the park office daily. The office is open between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Multiple truck loads can be purchased at the time of purchase. However, all firewood must be removed the date that the permit has been issued.

Wood may be cut and removed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Firewood from state parks is for personal use only and cannot be sold.
