DAR Good Citizen winner to be named Dec. 11 at PCPL

Monday, December 3, 2018

Administrators and faculty from the four Putnam County high schools are again working with the Washburn Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), to select one member from each senior class to represent his or her school in the annual Putnam County DAR Good Citizen competition.

Information from the Putnam County winner will then be submitted to statewide competition sponsored by the Indiana DAR.

A few years ago, South Putnam High School senior Heath Pruitt came home from state competition, honoring his outstanding community participation with a $1,000 award for having one of the top essays in the state.

Students are selected for having a variety of interests, making positive contributions to home, church and community and exhibiting such qualities as dependability, honesty, leadership, cooperation, self-control and initiative.

Each contestant must write an essay about the responsibility of good citizenship, submit a transcript of grades for four years and two letters of recommendation.

The 2018 competition will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the Kiwanis Room at the Putnam County Public Library as the individual Good Citizen winners from each Putnam County high school will read their essays for assembled members, parents and school administrators.

The overall Putnam County Good Citizen will be announced at that time.
