WorkOne hosting job fair for dislocated Dixie Chopper workers Jan. 10

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Following an orientation late last month, WorkOne will host a job fair for workers dislocated by the November closure of Dixie Chopper.

With 20 local employers onsite at the Inn at DePauw, the event will take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10.

The Inn at DePauw is located at 2 W. Seminary St., Greencastle.

Registered employers at the event will include FedEx, Aerotek (Great Dane), PPG Industrial Coatings, Indiana Department of Correction, Crown Equipment, Metal Forming Industries, Endeavor Communications, Walmart Distribution, CFA Staffing, Poet Biorefining, Bane Welker Equipment, Express Employment Professionals (Great Dane) and Chewy.

The job fair is open only to the workers and their families impacted by the closure of Dixie Chopper.

After nearly 40 years of production in Putnam County, the zero-turning-radius mower producer was closed suddenly on Nov. 27.

Jacobsen, a Textron Inc. company, had owned Dixie Chopper for nearly five years. Company officials have made no official statements about the closure nor announced their plans, if they have any, for the future of the Dixie Chopper brand.

Even if former Dixie Chopper workers are unable to attend the Jan. 10 job fair, they are encouraged to visit a WorkOne office to learn more about services available to them.

To be eligible for state benefits available to a dislocated worker, he or she must register with WorkOne prior to taking a new job.

The Greencastle WorkOne office is located at 1007 Mill Pond Lane and available by phone at 653-2421.

Anyone with further questions about the job fair or WorkOne should contact Mike Smith at (812) 238-5616 ext. 4 or by email at msmith@workforcenet.org.
