WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) was sworn in Thursday afternoon as a member of the 116th United States Congress, marking the beginning of his first term representing Indiana's 4th Congressional District.

"It is an honor to represent all Hoosiers from Indiana's Fourth Congressional District," Congressman Baird said. "I will continue to work hard every day to champion the causes of freedom and good government, so that Hoosiers can continue to build better lives for their families."

Before winning election to the United States House of Representatives in November, Congressman Baird served four terms in the Indiana General Assembly's 44th District.

Congressman Baird was succeeded in the Indiana Statehouse by his son, Beau Baird, who had to miss his father's historic moment Thursday to dutifully take part in his first day serving in the Indiana General Assembly as well.

Congressman Baird is a decorated Vietnam veteran, where his distinguished service to our country was recognized with a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

The 4th Congressional District encompasses 16 counties throughout west central and north central Indiana, including all of Putnam County.
