The 2019 Greencastle municipal primary election ballot has its first Republican and its second candidate overall after recent filings in the Putnam County Voter Registration Office.

Republican Stacie Langdon becomes the second city candidate for the May 7 primary election, filing for re-election to the Second Ward seat on the Greencastle City Council.

The first to file for the primary last Wednesday was Democrat candidate Veronica Pejril, 12 S. Arlington St., who is seeking the Third Ward City Council seat currently held by Steve Fields who does not plan to seek re-election.

The filing period began Jan. 10 and continues until noon Friday, Feb. 8 in the Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

Nine city positions are on the ballot for the primary -- mayor (currently Democrat Bill Dory), clerk-treasurer (currently Republican Lynda Dunbar), First Ward Councilor (currently Democrat Adam Cohen), Second Ward Councilor (Langdon), Third Ward (Democrat Fields), Fourth Ward Councilor (Republican Tyler Wade) and three at-large seats (currently held by Republican Mark Hammer and Democrats Gary Lemon and Dave Murray).

Meanwhile, the first county candidates have also filed, both from Cloverdale, where Cheryl Galloway has filed for re-election as clerk-treasurer and Coweta Patton has filed for the Second Ward seat on the town council.

Candidates in Fillmore, Russellville, Bainbridge and Roachdale will also be filing for office but it is uncertain whether any of the towns will need to hold a primary election, Voter Registration Officer Stacia Hathaway said.

Prospective candidates can obtain necessary forms to authorize their candidacy from the Voter Registration Office or go online at www.IN.gov/sos and then access the election division and its candidate information listing where the forms are available.
