Winter Storm Warning issued for Putnam County

Friday, January 18, 2019

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Putnam County from 4 a.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday.

In addition to Putnam, other counties listed in the warning area are Parke, Hendricks, Vermillion, Marion, Hancock, Henry and Rush, including the cities of Clinton, Newport, Rockville, Plainfield, Brownsburg, Danville, Indianapolis, Greenfield, New Castle, Rushville, and of course, Greencastle.

Hoosiers in those areas can expect heavy mixed precipitation with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch expected. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph are also expected.

Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions with blowing snow that could significantly reduce visibility.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
