WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Indiana 4th District Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) has been selected to serve on both the House Agriculture and the Science, Space & Technology committees.

The committee assignments for the new Republican members for the 116th Congress were made by the respective ranking member for each committee.

"I'm excited to welcome Jim to the House Agriculture Committee," House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Mike Conaway said. "On the heels of the 2018 Farm Bill, it is critical that strong members like Jim are involved in overseeing the implementation of all areas of the bill -- from the farm safety net to conservation to rural broadband. There is much work to be done in the 116th Congress, and I look forward to working alongside Jim on behalf of rural America."

"We have a great group of members on the committee," House Science, Space & Technology Ranking Member Frank Lucas said. "I'm looking forward to working together to prioritize research and development, energy innovation and exploration in space. Our new and returning members understand the importance of advancing America's technological competitiveness and driving job creation," Lucas added.

Baird was pleased with his first congressional committee assignments.

"It's an honor to have the opportunity to represent Hoosiers on committees that have such a direct impact on our way of life," Congressman Baird said. "From research and innovation, to our tremendous ability to help feed the globe, Indiana is at the forefront. I look forward to using my practical life experience and educational background to serve our district, state and country on these committees."
