County Jail

A one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning landed a 41-year-old Greencastle man in the Putnam County Jail on alcohol-related charges, Greencastle City Police reported.

Jonathan W. Hanlon, 41, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after he lost control of his 2003 Dodge 1500 truck on State Road 240 near Warren Drive and the truck went off the side of the road, flipping over onto the driver’s side about 3:45 a.m.

Officer Zach Rhine, responding to the accident, detected the smell of alcohol on Hanlon, who registered a .145 percent blood-alcohol level under testing.

Damage in the mishap was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 11:11 p.m. Saturday, Capt. Charles Inman investigated a one-vehicle accident on Avenue D near Percy Julian Drive

Kelci Flack, 17, Greencastle, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer eastbound in the 1100 block of Avenue D when her vehicle slid on ice and snow, going across the westbound lane, left the roadway and went completely through a chain link fence at the Crystal Bruns property.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

One recent summons was issued by city officers.

• At 7:57 a.m. Sunday James Finley, 57, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on East Franklin Street, Finley was issued a summons to appear in court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4 a.m. on Sunday, Michael V. White, 34, Coatesville, was westbound on County Road 600 North about a half-mile east of County Road 725 East in a 2004 Lexus RX 300 registered to Ronald Beamon of Coatesville.

Deputy Matt Biggs was called to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. and arrived to find the vehicle had collided with a utility pole owned by Hendricks Power Cooperative, hitting it with enough force to snap the pole, which was resting against the hood of the vehicle.

The driver was not on the scene.

White showed up on the scene around 9 a.m., saying he had left the scene because he was scared and that he lived just down the road.

He added that the car belonged to his boss and he was in the process of buying it.

A preliminary misdemeanor charged of leaving the scene of a property-damage crash was filed against White.

Due to the way that the pole was resting on the vehicle, Hendricks Power had to be called to move the old pole and set a new one before the car could be towed.

Biggs estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:44 p.m. on Saturday, Maegan A. Crafton, 26, Cloverdale, was eastbound on County Road 1000 South, just east of County Road 125 East, in a 2008 Dodge Caravan when she hit a deer.

Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, George D. Best, 19, Poland, was southbound on State Road 243 in a 2001 Ford F-150 when he lost control after crossing a bridge and starting to round a corner.

The truck started to fishtail before running into the ditch and rolling onto its side.

Best’s two front-seat passengers, Genevan Wilson, 16, and Kaylee Wilson, 15, both of Poland, were transported to the hospital with complaints of pain. Best was treated at the scene and released.

Best was cited for speed greater than reasonable under conditions and a license address change violation.

The truck was towed. Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
