County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 1:13 a.m. Timothy Stephen McCullough, 32, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Wednesday

• At 1:54 a.m. Ryan Damone Martin, 30, Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

Tuesday

• At 3:14 p.m. Alice Marie Payne, 54, Spencer, was booked in on a court order.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 7:08 p.m. Sunday, Britany Alexander, 35, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Kyle Lee after a vehicle stop on North Jackson Street.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Alexander was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

One recent summons was issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 7:09 p.m. Sunday, Herbert Dewbrew III, 37, Cloverdale, was stopped Officer Lee on North Jackson Street near Shadowlawn Avenue.

Dewbrew was issued a summons into court for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigate three recent property-damage accidents.

• At 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Cheyenne R. Burns, 26, Greencastle, was traveling southwest on Heritage Drive, approaching Gettysburg Drive in a 2001 Dodge Durango when a deer stepped out in front of her.

Burns told Deputy Daniel Birt she applied her brakes and the vehicle slid off the road.

As she tried to get her vehicle back on the road, it slid further down the embankment and became wedged between trees.

The SUV was towed. Birt estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:38 p.m. on Tuesday, Ryan S. Pieper, 36, Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 1000 South in a 2004 Infiniti QX56 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Brittany R. Priest, 30, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2005 Jeep Liberty when she began to lose control.

The conditions were turning icy and Priest told Deputy Birt she tried twice to correct the vehicle in both directions. The vehicle eventually spun completely around and continued sliding northbound backward.

Marvin A. Whaley, 70, Paragon, was southbound in a 2001 Chevrolet K1500 and was unable to stop or slow his vehicle to avoid a collision.

The rear passenger corner of Priest’s vehicle struck the driver’s side front corner of Whaley’s truck.

Whaley’s truck was towed due to disabling damage. Birt estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 recent dispatches:

• At 12:33 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 446 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:39 but found that the alarm was set off unintentionally. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:49 p.m.

• At 8:54 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 504 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:58 and determined that the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 9:05 p.m.

• At 12:54 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 413 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:59 and determined that the alarm was due to smoke from a candle. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 1:04 a.m.

• At 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a concern from a resident at 1216 S. Bloomington about a dysfunctional smoke detector. Units arrived at 11:47 and tested the detector. GFD replaced the detector and returned to station at 11:56 a.m.

• At 12 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a call at 412 N. College Ave. concerning an overheated furnace motor. Units arrived at 12:05 and checked out the motor, but did not do anything more. GFD went back into service at 12:22 p.m.

• GFD responded to two consecutive dispatches to 109 W. Hanna St. on Wednesday:

- At 1:58 p.m., GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:02 p.m. and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 2:09 p.m.

- At 7:52 p.m., GFD was dispatched again for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:56 and again determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then again reset. GFD left at 7:58 p.m.

• At 12:59 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the Hickory Creek at Sunset retirement home for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:06 a.m. and found that the alarm was pulled without cause. The alarm was then reset. GFD went back into service at 1:12 a.m.

• At 2:48 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 509 S. Locust St. for a steam leak. Units arrived at 2:53 and stayed at the scene until DePauw maintenance responded to the issue. GFD went back int service at 3:24 a.m.

• At 6:41 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a car fire at 2600 E. U.S. 40. Firefighters arrived at 6:49 and extinguished the fire. GFD returned to station at 7:25 a.m.

• At 10:06 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched again to 504 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:10 and found that the detector head was dirty. The head was cleaned out and the alarm was then reset. GFD returned to service at 10:21 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed one medical assist and had two disregards during this time.
