Self-management diabetes classes at PCH

Everyone With Diabetes Counts, a diabetes self-management class, will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Putnam County Hospital.

The six-week series is free and open to anyone with diabetes or prediabetes and their families or support persons.

Topics will include: Understanding the Human Body, Understanding Risk Factors for Diabetes, Monitoring Your Body, Get Up & Move, Meal Planning, Diabetes Complications, Medications & Medical Care and Living with Diabetes.

The classes will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the third floor of Putnam County Hospital.

The DEEP (Diabetes Empowerment Education Program) curriculum is based on national medical care and diabetes self-care education guidelines and was developed by the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The program seeks to empower patients and communities and applies principles of adult education and group work techniques that promote learning as well as progression toward a healthy lifestyle.
