Putnam County Operation Life EMS was awarded $2,444 to help with the purchase of two Viking Series 800MHz portable radios which are critical for the crews to deliver emergency care to residents.
New Market Community Volunteer Fire Department will receive $6,016.49 to assist in replacing existing and non-operational area lighting that is important for the success and safety of calls between dusk and dawn.
Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society was awarded $5,000 to help to replace the furnace and upgrade some of the electrical in the shelter.
Riverton Parke High School’s Buddy Bag program, which helps to provide students in need with food over the weekends, was awarded $2,817.50 to assist with the purchase of food items.
More than 8,000 Parke County REMC participants who agree to “round up” their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar made the donations possible. The rounded-up funds are then placed in the trust to be awarded by an all-volunteer board. Various non-profit groups, organizations and individuals within Parke County REMC’s six-county (including Putnam) service territory receive the grants.
Application deadline for the next cycle is Tuesday, March 5.
Nonprofit groups or organizations interested in applying for funds may obtain an application at Parke County REMC, www.pcremc.com or by calling 765-569-3133 or the toll-free number of 800-537-3913.
