Female chefs to prepare five-course wine dinner event Feb. 11 at Almost Home

Almost Home Restaurant in Greencastle will be hosting a unique wine dinner, “Women in Food: A Celebration of Food and Wine,” on Monday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m.

Five distinguished female chefs -- Mary Anne Birt, Regina Mehallick, Erin Kem, Gail Smith and Debby Dayton -- have teamed up to create a five-course meal, each course paired with a wine sample from Trinchero Family Estates.

Dinner will begin with an appetizer of bacon-wrapped dates served with a siracha honey sauce prepared by Chef Mary Anne Birt and paired with Avissi Prossecco. Gratineed oysters and sauerkraut with caviar, prepared by Chef Erin Kem, will be paired with Terra O’doro Chenin Viognier.

Chef Regina Mehallick will be serving a pear-pistachio-parsnip soup with kohlrabi salad paired with Folie a Deux Pino Gris.

The entrée, prepared by Chef Gail Smith, is an herb-crusted pork loin with apricot filling paired with Folie a Deux Merlot.

The evening’s final course, vanilla bean Crème Brulee, will be prepared by Chef Debby Dayton and paired with Terra O’doro Moscato.

Cost is $75 per person and reservations are required. Persons may call the restaurant at 653-5788 to reserve a seat. Tickets can also be ordered online at www.almosthomerestaurant.com by clicking on the “shop” tab.

Almost Home Restaurant is located at 17 W. Franklin St., Greencastle, and serves both lunch and dinner.
