Artwork by North Putnam students shines at regional Scholastic Art Awards

Eighteen students in Sarah Chizum’s and Amanda Kramer’s fine arts classes at North Putnam High School were recently honored at a regional competition affiliated with the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

The region which included North Putnam is made up of 62 counties in central and southern Indiana, and the works were recognized among more than 3,000 works submitted within this region.

The awards earned at North Putnam include four Gold Key awards for the best work in a category, 10 Silver Key awards for distinguished work in a category and four Honorable Mentions.

The students who received Gold Key awards were Jessica Farmer, Morgan Boller, Megan Earley and Katie Gilliam.

Silver Key winners included John Huffman, Annie Peabody, Rhiannon Knutti, Curtis Matthias, Taryn Thornburg, Kyle Young, Maddie Trotter, Aaron Fritz and Megan Earley.

Honorable mentions also included works by students Garrett Kindle, Nyiah Goff and Grace Elmore.

Megan Earley won a Silver Key in the regional competition of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Artwork awarded Gold and Silver Keys will be on display at Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University through March 17.

All works receiving Gold Keys are considered for national honors and inclusion in an exhibition in New York City. National medalists will be announced on March 13.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the oldest and longest running art and literary awards for students in the United States.
