County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 8:16 a.m. Jessie Darlene Parks, 52, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

• At 4:22 a.m. Jorge Rodilmer, 24, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

• At 12:33 a.m. Mariah Gale Sutton, 22, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Sunday

• At 1:01 a.m. Christopher Leon Pringle, 31, Clayton, was booked in for battery and possession of a handgun without a license.

Saturday

• At 11:01 p.m. Hannah Kay Williams, 32, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for criminal trespass.

• At 10:47 p.m. Brian Alan Ping, 34, Roachdale, was taken into custody for criminal trespass.

• At 3:36 p.m. Lavanda Rosetta Willoughby, 26, Dry Ridge, Ky., was housed at the jail for two counts of trafficking with an inmate, dealing in cocaine, dealing in a Schedule III controlled substance and dealing in a synthetic drug.

• At 7:56 a.m. Tun Lwin Poe, 54, Indianapolis, was booked in on a court order.

• At 12:07 a.m. Mark Fredrick Glendy, 59, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated seven recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:48 a.m. on Monday, Zakery W. Williams, 29, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 when his 2009 Nissa Versa struck a deer.

Deputy Tanner Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

Williams later said that the vehicle had no insurance coverage.

• At 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, Faith N. Brasel, 71, Ellettsville, was westbound on County Road 375 North approaching a downgrade S-curve in a 2005 Ford Taurus.

Brasel told Deputy Markus Witt that as she entered the curve she felt the rear of the vehicle begin to slide. She said the car turned completely around and slid backward into the ditch on the east side of the road.

There was ice on the road at the time of the incident, so much that the tow truck driver told Witt the vehicle could not be retrieved until after the ice had melted.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Deontae L. Peete, 20, Crawfordsville, was southbound on County Road 700 East in a 2015 Chrysler 200 Series.

Peete told Deputy Witt he applied the brakes and began to turn the wheel to complete the turn onto County Road 300 North but the vehicle began to slide, leaving the road and entering a yard, where it hit several wooden fence pillars and a large wood planting pot before coming to a stop.

Peete was not injured.

The car was towed. Witt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 4:19 a.m. on Saturday, John W. Kline, 19, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2016 Hyundai Sonata when he hit a deer.

Deputy Daniel Birt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 9:29 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, Tamara D. Ayento, 53, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 on Waterworks Hill near Kersey Lane in a 2004 Dodge Durango.

Ayento lost control of the SUV on the icy roadway, sliding sideways off the road and into a guardrail.

Ayento was not injured.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000. The vehicle was towed.

• At 1:28 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, Justin C. Pelley, 18, Batavia, Ill., was northbound on County Road 150 West near County Road 450 South in a 2014 Dodge Charger.

Pelley was entering a curve when he began to hydroplane and lost control due to slick conditions from heavy rain.

The car left the road and entered a ditch.

The vehicle had to be pulled from the ditch but was then driven from the scene.

Deputy Freeman estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, Cody N. Hatton, 17, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 125 South in a 2002 Jeep Liberty.

Hatton told Sheriff Scott Stockton that as he approached, a vehicle was backing out of the driveway at 1767 W. CR 125 South.

Hatton said he lost control trying to avoid the other vehicle, leaving the roadway and entering a ditch.

The vehicle was towed. Stockton estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches:

• At 5:27 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 405 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:32 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 5:37 a.m.

• At 12:26 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:31 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:39 p.m.

• At 11:03 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 415 S. Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:07 and determined that the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:19 p.m.

• At 11:28 p.m. on Saturday and into Sunday morning, GFD was called to a motor vehicle rollover at S. County Road 275 E. Units arrived at 11:40 but details as to GFD’s actions could not be found in the accident report. GFD went back into service at 12:13 a.m.

• At 2:57 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was called to a hazmat situation at 602 S. College St. Units arrived at 3:01 p.m. and were told that a line inside a fridge had developed a hole. The fridge was then removed. GFD went back into service at 3:41 p.m.

• At 7:06 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 1207 S. Bloomington St. for a reported propane smell. Units arrived at 7:14 but could not detect any propane leak on the property. GFD returned to station at 7:34 p.m.
