Public invited to Civic League 35th anniversary party

Monday, March 4, 2019

With members already considering how to make a difference in the next 35 years and beyond, the Greencastle Civic League will celebrate its 35th anniversiary with a party on Monday, March 11.

The 6:30 p.m. event at The Inn at DePauw is free and open to the public.

Former Mayor Sue Murray will provide remarks at 7 p.m. and current members of the Civic League will provide information about a new endowment, which will help fund future community grants. Donations will be accepted.

“We are so proud of this organization’s accomplishments over the past 35 years — from raising funds for important community landmarks to beautifying our streets and infusing art into our community,” said Megan Linneweber, current Greencastle Civic League president. “We hope the community comes out to join us to celebrate those memories, but also to join us as we look toward the future.”

The Greencastle Civic League was founded in 1984 with a mission of improving life in Greenastle, primarily through beautification, clean-up projects, cultural development and the arts.

Major projects have included the construction of the Emerald Palace playground at Robe-Ann Park, the creation of the Bob York Splash Park and a number of murals downtown. The group recently helped raise funds for the new Robe-Ann bandshell.

The Civic League also facilitates ParkFest, the 4th of July Pancake Breakfast and two annual highway clean-ups of its sponsored portion of the Veterans Memorial Highway.

The membership is still seeking to update its records. If you were a member of the Greencastle Civic League, email your contact information to greencastlecivicleagueinc@gmail.com.

Though it is not necessary to RSVP to the March 11 event, anyone may do so by emailing greencastlecivicleagueinc@gmail.com or the Civic League Facebook page.
