Traffic stop leads to discovery of 12 ounces of methamphetamine
CLOVERDALE -- A Thursday afternoon traffic stop led to the discovery of 12 ounces of methamphetamine and the arrest of a duo from Mattoon, Ill.
At 2:49 p.m., an Indiana State Trooper observed a silver Nissan Altima traveling westbound at a reduced speed in the left lane of Interstate 70 near the 44-mile marker, three miles east of Cloverdale.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 30-year-old Hannah Danneberger. Her passenger was identified as 51-year-old Michael Oldfield.
During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper observed criminal indicators. A Putnam County sheriff's K-9 was called for assistance. A positive K-9 alert to the odor of illegal drugs led to a search of the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, the trooper discovered 12 ounces of methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is $6,500.
It was discovered through a criminal history search that Oldfield was a convicted felon and during the search of the vehicle troopers discovered he was in possession of a .40-caliber firearm.
Danneberger and Oldfield were taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail.
Both face preliminary charges of Level 2 dealing in methamphetamine and Level 3 felony possession of methamphetamine.
Additionally, Oldfield faces a Level 4 felony charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
