Letter to the Editor

Ag Day organizers thankful for support

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

To the Editor:

“Agriculture: Food for Life” was the theme celebrated at the 2019 Putnam County Ag Day event on Saturday, March 9, where families came together to learn about a farmer’s everyday life.

Ag Day kicked off its festivities with an Ag Day breakfast followed by a short program by Keegan Poe celebrating Indiana Farm Bureau’s 100th Anniversary.

Awards were also presented for Friend of the Farmer, Farmer of the Year and Putnam County Farm Bureau’s Ag Production in Putnam County Photo Contest.

Immediately following the program was the Mini Farm Fest where families participated in hands-on activities and had the opportunity to interact with farm animals, sample milk and popcorn, view farm equipment, view a movie in the barn theater and much more.

Our goal of reaching out to teach the community of Putnam County about the importance of agriculture could not have been achieved without the support of our many sponsors and exhibitors, including: Putnam County Farm Bureau Inc., Putnam County Community Foundation, Almost Home, Burger King, Kroger, McDonald’s, Putnam Inn, Subway, Farm Credit Mid-America, First Financial Bank, First National Bank, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, North Salem State Bank, PNC Bank and Tri-County Bank.

Also, Master Gardeners, Putnam County Farm Bureau Insurance, Keegan Poe and Chuck the Steer, North Putnam FFA, South Putnam FFA, Cloverdale FFA, 4-H Junior Leaders, Purdue Extension, SWCD, Putnam County Antique Tractor and Machinery Association, Co-Alliance-Bainbridge, Noah Poynter Media, Ivy Tech, AHW Rockville John Deere, Humphrey’s, Chandler’s Fruit and Vegetable Farm, POET Ethanol, Indiana Soybean Alliance, Indiana Beef Council, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Grateful Gardens CSA, Glass Barn, Indiana Poultry Association, American Dairy Association, Indiana Pork, Jeff Coffman Family, JTN Outdoor Power, Dillon Sutherlin-sheep, Earley and Skirvin Family-llamas, Ariens Family-dairy calf, Cantonwine Family-rabbits, Bayless Family-chickens, Putnam County 4-H Poultry Club, Purdue Club of Putnam County Food Drive and Keeney Family-poultry.

Thanks also to Pastor Barry Tucker from Bainbridge Christian Church for leading the event in devotion and prayer and special thanks to the Ag Day committee of Ken Carrington, Steve and Patti Cash and Jenna Nees.

Many thanks also go out to the Banner Graphic and WREB 94.3 for their timely press coverage of the event.
