Russellville council takes street bids under advisement

RUSSELLVILLE -- A plan to implement road improvements in Russellville is coming closer to reality as bids for roadwork will be considered by the Russellville Town Council.

Making up the bulk of a 45-minute regular meeting held in the Russellville Community Center Tuesday evening, town officials opened two bids for work which will be done on various streets within the town.

Responding to a call from the Banner Graphic Thursday morning, Clerk-Treasurer Martha Mandleco provided that bids from Wabash Valley Asphalt and Grady Brothers Inc. are being considered for the work. The improvements will come under a recently awarded Community Crossings grant, which HWC Engineering has assisted the town with.

While she did not readily have access to documents at the time of the call and couldn’t provide the bids’ proposed estimates, Mandleco said that both will be taken under advisement until a special meeting held on Tuesday, March 26 at 7 p.m. The preferred bid will be chosen at that time.

Wabash Valley Asphalt did improvements in the town under another Community Crossings grant last year, while Grady Brothers has done similar work in both Bainbridge and Roachdale.

The Russellville Town Council also briefly considered further steps to address a drainage issue that has come up on Indiana Street. Mandleco expressed that while the council discussed how it could proceed, no determination was made at the meeting.

Mandleco said she had sent a letter to Town Attorney Stu Weliever about the town’s options on repairs, but had not heard back from him as of Thursday morning.

The next regular meeting of the Russellville Town Council is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Russellville Community Center.
