County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 11:47 p.m. Joshua Michael Butler, 35, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 1:59 a.m. Desiree Dawn Bradley, 20, Bloomington, was taken into custody for possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction and driving with a suspended license.

• At 1:31 a.m. David H. Jewell, 39, Poland, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and illegal possession of a firearm.

Saturday

• At 5:15 a.m. Matthew Anthony Miles, 43, Reelsville, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 10:16 p.m. Misty Dawn New, 33, Bainbridge, was lodged at the jail for unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 11:53 a.m. Brodie Alexander Prim, 21, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for probation violation.

City Police

One weekend arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 10:28 p.m. Friday, Stanley McKinney, 37, Bainbridge, was arrested by Officer Zach Rhine.

Taken into custody at a Woodhaven Drive address, McKinney was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of resisting law enforcement and on a Putnam County warrant for battery and resisting law enforcement.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage accidents.

• At 7:51 a.m. on Sunday, Cathy Garvey, 58, Terre Haute, was driving a 2012 Mitsubishi Galant on County Road 400 West when she apparently fell asleep.

Garvey told Deputy Tanner Brown she did not remember what happened. She fell asleep and woke up with the car in the ditch.

Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:43 a.m. on Saturday, Joyce E. Jackson, 55, Edinburgh, was eastbound in the area of 6600 E. U.S. 36 in a 2017 Hyundai Sonota registered to Hertz Corp. when a deer crossed in front of her.

Jackson told Deputy Randy Patrick she tried to avoid the animal and lost control of the vehicle, which left the road.

The vehicle had to be towed. Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 9:10 a.m. on Friday, Austin M. Taylor, 24, Bismark, Ill., was southbound on County Road 150 West, about a quarter-mile north of County Road 550 South, in a 2004 Peterbilt semi tractor registered to D and M Powell Inc.

Deputy Matt Biggs reported that as Taylor tried to round a 90-degree corner, his trailer left the east side of the road and hit a Frontier Communications telephone pole.

Curtis Wrecker pulled the vehicle back on the road and it was driven from the scene.

Biggs estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to eight recent dispatches:

• At 3:12 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 626 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:17 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 3:35 p.m.

• At 7:56 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a reported illegal burn at 154 Bloomington St. Units arrived at 8:04 p.m. and determined the fire was out of city limits. GFD went back into service at 8:20 p.m.

• At 10:31 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:34 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 10:39 a.m.

• At 10:54 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 750 S. Fillmore Rd. Firefighters arrived at 11:03 a.m. and found that an air leak was setting off the alarm. GFD put the alarm in test mode until maintenance arrived to reset the alarm. GFD went back into service at 11:29 a.m.

• GFD responded to two animal rescue calls at 409 E. Hanna St. on Sunday:

- At 5:51 a.m., GFD responded to the property for a cat that was on the roof. Units arrived at 5:53 and found the cat was not in distress, and no attempt was made to rescue the animal. GFD left at 6:03 a.m.

- At 10:06 p.m., GFD received another call for a cat stuck in a tree. Units arrived at 10:14 and rescued the cat. GFD left at 10:36 p.m.

• At 12:39 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 414 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:44 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:49 a.m.

• At 1:28 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at The Waters of Greencastle. Firefighters arrived at 1:35 and found that a pull station had been activated. The pull station and the alarm was then reset. GFD went back into service at 1:58 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed three medical assists and had one disregard during this time.
