CLOVERDALE -- The latest in a string of grants awarded since 2016, the Town of Cloverdale will have new funds to do much-needed roadwork within the town’s limits.

Town officials learned Tuesday that Cloverdale will receive a new grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) through its Community Crossings program, which is aimed toward providing municipalities with the means to address issues with roads and bridges.

The grant will be on a 75-25 percent matching basis, awarding the town $412,148.16, with Cloverdale providing the remaining $137,382.72.

The total cost of the project comes to $549,530.88.

According to Clerk-Treasurer Cheryl Galloway in a Tuesday afternoon call from the Banner Graphic, the submitted grant cited 32 potential roads within Cloverdale deemed as needing milling and repaving.

These roads include locally major thoroughfares such as North Lafayette Street and Robert Weist Ave. The grant stipulates that sidewalks will also be replaced if they are currently set on a particular road.

Galloway provided after a special town council meeting Tuesday evening that the town will budget its share of the grant through the motor vehicle fund, community development fund and an economic development fund.

Referencing efforts by Town Manager Wayne Galloway and Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Trina Baker, Mrs. Galloway also wrote in an email to the Banner Graphic that both “have worked so hard on gathering the information needed to submit the grant paper work,” adding “Cloverdale is so blessed to have this team all working to better the infrastructure for the new growth that is coming our way.”

According to Galloway, this grant is the most recent of three awarded to Cloverdale, totaling $1,558,000 in funds which have been used to address significant road improvements within the town.
