No arrests, investigation ongoing in Tuesday stabbing

Thursday, March 28, 2019

While police detained a man they identified only as a suspect in a Tuesday stabbing on Greencastle’s South Side, no one has been arrested or charged with a crime in the case.

Police are continuing to investigate the afternoon incident in which a 46-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the kidney area.

Putnam County Dispatch called multiple agencies to the 700 block of Crown Street shortly before 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Greencastle Police Department had not released the names of any people involved in the case.

The victim was awake and alert when police arrived on the scene. He was taken to Putnam County Regional Airport and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Two men were seen fleeing the scene, one of them identified as the stabbing suspect.

On Tuesday evening, GPD reported having the suspect detained. However, no arrest was made, with questions remaining over whether the stabbing occurred as an act of self defense.

Adding to this possibility, a witness at the scene told police the suspect may have had facial injuries.

  • So many questions need answered. But why flee if the stabbing was in self defense?
