Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Alicia L. Linton, 59, Greencastle, was attempting to pull out of a shared driveway for a housing addition at 109 W. Poplar St., Greencastle, in a 2009 Dodge Caravan.

Linton told Deputy Matt Biggs she turned too sharply out of her parking space, hitting the passenger side rear of an unoccupied 2006 Chevrolet Malibu parked in the next space and registered to Terry G. Grice, Greencastle.

The owners were out of state at the time, but Linton made contact to let them know of the incident.

Biggs estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Mikel R. Teague, 63, New Ross, was southbound on County Road 250 East just south of County Road 1400 North in a 2013 Kenworth T800 registered to McCutchan Farms, New Ross.

Teague told Deputy Biggs he met a northbound passenger car that was on the yellow line. Teague moved right to avoid the car and the front passenger side tire dropped off the road, into the soft berm.

The weight of the vehicle, which was hauling a full load of beans, pulled him further off the road, where it began to roll over, but instead struck a Duke Energy pole, against which it was leaning.

Duke was called to the scene to turn the power off and then the beans had to be offloaded. At that point, the vehicle could be recovered by Wilson’s Towing. The road did not reopen until shortly before 3 p.m.

Biggs reported that the pole did not need to be replaced afterward.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.
