Melvin Keith Keyt, 82, of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

He was born Aug. 18, 1936 in Putnam County, the son of Emmett Cleo and Clella Helen (Morlan) Keyt and was a 1954 graduate of Bainbridge High School.

Melvin was a United States Army veteran, having served from 1959 to 1961.

Melvin retired from IBM in Greencastle, where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of the Greencastle Moose Lodge 1592, serving in many district and state positions, receiving the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 2006, the highest honor of the fraternity. He was appointed the Deputy Supreme Governor for the State of Indiana in 2016.

He was a member of the Clinton Falls Community Church, charter member of the Greencastle Eagles and held a 37-year membership in the American Legion.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherri (husband Scott) Wahl; a son Montgomery (wife Janice) Keyt; a brother, William (wife Joanna) Keyt; a sister, Betty Wallace; fiancée Brenda Heacock; and three grandchildren, Josh and Chad Keyt and Shayna Wahl.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife B.J. Keyt; sister Norma Jean Russell; and brother-in-law Joe Wallace.

Moose Lodge services will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at the Clinton Falls Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
