New Putnam County Extension health and human sciences educator introduced

Abbi Sampson

Abbi Sampson is the new health and human sciences educator in Putnam County. She recently passed her registered dietitian examination and is a certified dietitian for the state of Indiana.

Sampson also holds a ServSafe license with the National Restaurant Association. Sampson has passions for food insecurity, food and nutrition education, food safety, and lifestyle wellness.

She has extensive practice with nutrition education for various chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart, liver and kidney disease. Previously, Sampson worked for Parke and Vigo County WIC were she provided nutrition education for women, infants and children.

During graduate school she worked for a free health clinic and provided basic nutrition education to clients in the Delaware County community. Sampson is excited to bring her passions to Putnam County.

Although born and raised a Purdue Boilermaker fan, Sampson completed both her bachelor and master’s degrees at Ball State University. She grew up in Lawrenceburg, and plans to relocate to the Greencastle in the next few weeks.

When not out in the community educating about healthier diets and lifestyles, Sampson enjoys spending time with her family, especially her dog Boiler. She enjoys the outdoors, hiking, camping and hunting. Recently she completed her first marathon. Sampson and her family learned the sport of pickleball last fall, and she is looking forward to playing again now that winter has passed.

She currently writes a personal blog called Venison and Veggies, where she shows others how to prepare simple and healthy meals. Sampson is excited to begin her career with Purdue Extension.
