Greencastle man held on eight charges following early morning pursuit
A 47-year-old Greencastle man was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on eight separate charges following a short early morning pursuit that ended in the driveway of an East Side residence.
Arrested at 1:46 a.m. Tuesday, Robert Michael Noble, 47, is facing preliminary charges of battery on law enforcement, resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-refusal, disorderly conduct, intimidation, operating a vehicle while never licensed and probation violation.
The incident unfolded after City Police Officers Zach Rhine and Elsiana Crosby responded to the East Side to investigate a red car reportedly driving recklessly in the area.
The officers notice a westbound car coming at a high rate of speed and going through the stoplight at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive. It was estimated the car was traveling in excess of 70 mph.
When the driver refused to stop Officer Rhine notified dispatch that officers were in pursuit of the vehicle, which turned back east on Washington Street and disregarded the stopsign at Percy Julian Drive.
The car finally came to a stop at an Avenue E residence, with the suspect initially refusing to exit the vehicle, police said.
After reportedly scuffling with officers, the suspect then identified himself as Robert Noble, allegedly telling authorities he was not refusing to stop.
A subsequent check of the vehicle revealed alcoholic beverages in the car, Rhine reported.
City officers were assisted by Putnam County Sheriff's deputies Riley Houghton and Robert Soilleux.
