See space exhibits at Turkey Run State Park

MARSHALL -- Turkey Run State Park is inviting people to explore the wonders of space with six space exhibits until June 22 at the park’s nature center.

On the last day the exhibits will be at the park, the Wabash Valley Astronomical Society will have a special telescope that allows for safe viewing of the sun from 3-5 p.m.

That night, nearby Shades State Park, which has one of the darkest night skies in Indiana, will host a Shades Star Party at 10 p.m. along the road to the Pine Hills parking lot. The society will set up telescopes along the road and have astronomers available to help people see into space. This event could be rescheduled if conditions do not allow for proper viewing of the sky.

Interpretive naturalists will provide star shows in the planetarium at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday beginning in May and running through August. The nature center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in April and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May through August.

The exhibits are on loan from the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science through a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.
