DANVILLE -- A 26-year-old Coatesville woman -- whose name reportedly won’t be released until formal charges are filed -- is suspected of crashing her vehicle into the iconic Mayberry police car used to promote a Danville restaurant.
The property-damage accident reportedly occurred at about 4:25 a.m. Friday as the car was parked in front of the Mayberry Cafe, 78 W. Main St. (U.S. 36), Danville. The restaurant features memorabilia from the classic television series, ”The Andy Griffith Show,” set in fictional Mayberry, N.C.
The car reportedly sustained significant damage to the rear driver’s side quarter panel, rear bumper and trunk.
Danville Metropolitan Police were notified by a witness that someone had crashed into the car as it was parked along the north side of the street, across from the Hendricks County Courthouse.
The suspect, who was found about 9:45 a.m. Friday, is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor. According to police, alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the pre-dawn accident.
