County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 4:04 p.m. John F. Belongia, 55, Fillmore, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated-refusal, driving while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.

• At 2:09 a.m. Rusty Shane Drury, 30, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

Saturday

• At 8:42 p.m. Daniel David Jewell, 38, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 6:25 p.m. Michael Eugen Schicker, 38, Cloverdale, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 3:01 p.m. Victoria A. Cheatham, 18, Whiteland, was lodged at the jail for resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

Friday

• At 8:02 p.m. Mark Allen Morgan, 31, Nashville, Ind., was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 2:42 p.m. Hannah Louise Jordan, 27, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 2:06 p.m. Ireland Scott McKean, 21, Greencastle, was booked in on a parole hold.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• A Rockville man was arrested on driving while intoxicated charges following a Friday-night collision.

At 10:10 p.m. David A. Galloway, 56, Rockville, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching County Road 500 North in a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt registered to Nancy Petro of Rockville. Alvin C. Schuh, 53, North Salem, was also northbound in a 1996 Buick LeSabre.

Schuh told Deputy Jeffery Freeman he saw Galloway’s vehicle approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. At the last moment, Galloway swerved to the left, hitting the guardrail on the west side of the road.

After hitting the guardrail, the car swerved back into Schuh’s car, causing moderate driver side damage.

Galloway’s car then went back across the northbound lane and came to rest in the east side ditch.

Galloway’s vehicle suffered major disabling damage, with both front wheels and tires coming dismounted from the car.

Galloway remained in the vehicle until Operation Life personnel arrived. He did not complain of pain but Freeman reported that he showed signs of heavy intoxication. He was taken to Putnam County Hospital for evaluation, having refused implied consent.

He was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 11:24 p.m. for driving while intoxicated endangering a person, driving while intoxicated-refusal and reckless driving.

Schuh was not injured and was able to drive from the scene.

Galloway’s car was towed.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:09 p.m. on Thursday, John A. Angi, 59, Reelsville, was northbound on U.S. 231 when his 2008 Honda Accord began to hydroplane.

The vehicle crossed the center line, spun around and hit the guardrail on the west side with the rear passenger side quarter panel before coming to rest in the ditch.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Indiana State Police

Indiana State Police made four recent arrests in Putnam County, all related to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• On Sunday, Trooper Colton Maynor arrested Lee N. Foster, 67, Poland for driving while intoxicated after Foster was involved in an accident.

Foster tested at .21 BAC and was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 8:14 p.m.

• On Saturday evening, Maynor initiated a traffic stop at U.S. 231 and County Road 925 South.

Maynor discovered that the driver, 20-year-old Monte Earl Stark of Bowling Green, was under the influence of marijuana.

Stark was lodged at the Putnam County Jail at 8:29 p.m. on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• Trooper Kyle Hall arrested an Indianapolis woman following a one-vehicle accident on Friday evening.

Karina Oertel, 38, was eastbound on Interstate 70 at the 31-mile marker when she struck a guardrail.

Oertel tested positive for a controlled substance.

She was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 7:10 p.m. for driving while intoxicated-refusal.

• On Friday evening, Trooper James Crisp initiated a stop on I-70 that resulted in the arrest of a Zionsville man.

Brandon Harold Eugene Wright, 33, was stopped westbound at the 46-mile marker. Wright tested at a BAC of .22.

He was taken into the Putnam County Jail at 5:58 p.m. on a preliminary charge of driving while intoxicated.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 13 recent dispatches:

• At 9:23 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:28 but were unable to determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 9:34 p.m.

• At 11:44 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 1 Taylor Place for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:49 but no cause for the alarm was logged. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:56 p.m.

• At 4:10 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 303 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:16 and found the alarm had malfunctioned. It was advised that personnel be contacted to repair the alarm, and GFD left at 4:40 a.m.

• At 8:46 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched again to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:51 and found that the alarm had been activated due to drywall dust. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 8:59 a.m.

• At 2:21 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 303 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:24 p.m. and found that the pull station had been activated, though no fire was burning. The alarm was reset, and GFD left at 2:28 p.m.

• At 3:10 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries at the intersection of Washington Street and Vine Street. Units arrived at the scene at 3:14 and cleaned up fluid from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 3:23 p.m.

• At 3:33 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to an unauthorized burn at 32 Jackson Blvd. Units arrived at the residence at 3:38 and informed the homeowner of the city burn ordinance. The fire was then extinguished. GFD went back into service at 3:48 p.m.

• At 6:12 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched again to 1 Taylor Place for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:20 and found that the detector had a dirty head. The detector head was cleaned, and the alarm was then reset. GFD left at 6:25 p.m.

• At 7:19 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 616 Ridge Ave. for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:25 but found that the CO detectors were out-of-date. No fire was found. GFD left at 7:37 p.m.

• At 3:42 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 806 S. College Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:47 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:01 a.m.

• At 5:12 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:16 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 5:33 p.m.

• At 5:54 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 414 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:57 and determined that the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 5:59 p.m.

• At 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched again to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:34 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 7:47 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed 10 medical assists and had one disregard during this time.
