Veterans History Project volunteer training workshop set for May 14

Thursday, May 2, 2019

DANVILLE – U.S. Congressman Jim Baird’s (R-Greencastle) 4th District office is partnering with the Library of Congress to offer a training session for volunteers wishing to assist in collecting the oral history of veterans for the Veterans History Project (VHP).

The mission of the VHP is to protect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of wartime veterans so future generations may hear directly from them and better understand their service.

The training session is slated for 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds Conference Complex (South Hall) in Danville.

Veterans, friends and family members of veterans, and any interested member of the community 16 years of age or older are encouraged to participate. As space is limited, those interested in attending the training should RSVP to Diane Hubbard with Congressman Baird’s office at Diane.Hubbard@mail.house.gov or call the Danville District Office at 317-563-5567.

The training session will provide participants with the skills to properly engage and interview veterans, making them feel most comfortable sharing their stories. Attendees will learn how to prepare for the interview, what equipment to use, where to set the interview, how to ask questions in a respectful manner and how to properly submit materials to the Library of Congress.

Attire is casual and refreshments will be provided.
