Baird to hold military academy day at Lafayette YMCA

Friday, May 3, 2019

DANVILLE -- Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) invites all students, parents and school officials from Indiana’s 4th Congressional District who are interested in learning more about attending our nation’s military academies to come to Academy Day on Saturday, May 11 at the Lafayette Family YMCA.

The event will include presentations from all five U.S. Service Academies with information about each academy and the admissions process.

“One of the most honorable callings in life is to answer the call of duty and serve our country in the military,” Congressman Baird said. “This event provides a forum for students in our 4th District to gather information and ask questions on how to continue their education at our U.S. Service Academies.”

Each year, members of Congress may nominate a limited number of students to four of the five service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

This year’s Academy Day will be held Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lafayette Family YMCA, 3001 S. Creasy Lane, Lafayette.

For security purposes, please RSVP all attendees to Matt.Row@mail.house.gov, including full name, driver’s license and date of birth. The event is free and open to all 4th District students and their families.

A lifelong Hoosier, Congressman Baird serves as a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
