PUTNAMVILLE -- A 25-year-old Putnamville Correctional Facility (PCF) officer is facing two felony counts of trafficking with an inmate following a recent arrest at the prison facility.

Michael Anthony Miller of Plainfield is being held in the Putnam County Jail on charges of trafficking with an inmate involving a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit trafficking of a controlled substance. Both are Level 5 felonies that are punishable by 1-6 years in prison.

Miller was arrested on May 9 after admitting to bringing a package he believed contained Suboxone, a drug used to treat opioid addiction, into the facility.

Miller reportedly had communicated with former offender Brandon Cooper who had been released in February 2019, court documents state.

The probable cause affidavit notes that “Miller agreed to pick up a package containing an unknown amount of Suboxone from Cooper and traffic it into the facility.”

The defendant was reportedly to be paid $2,000 for bringing in the drug and delivering it to offender Kevin Elmore.

Miller admitted taping the package to his groin area, enabling him to pass a security pat down.

An Indiana Department of Correction spokesman said Miller has been dismissed from DOC employment.

“Putnamville Correctional Facility has a zero-tolerance policy for this type of misconduct,” Warden Brian Smith said in a statement. “Anyone found trafficking will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Miller has made an initial appearance in Putnam Superior Court.

But Queen53, did you not read what he was smuggling in?

A substance that HELPS people get over drug addiction.

And being the drug warrior that you are, I would've thought that you would laud such action - helping people get off of drugs.

Maybe this guy is just a bit misguided and needs to talk to someone...like a psychiatrist. ;)

Well, lets make that a psychologist. B/c psychiatrists are allowed to prescribe drugs and according to Queen53 drugs are bad.

What? Only some drugs are bad?

Thankfully we have you to tell us which ones are good and which are bad.

LOL - both this story and this comment are much funnier in the context of "take your medicine".

  • Suboxone is a synthetic opioid used as a moderate strength pain killer, as well as a drug to treat opioid dependence. The effects last longer than say heroin, hopefully reducing the desire to use the heroin. In a prison, it’s a potentially deadly drug (like ALL unprescribed drugs are in the wrong hands)

Any Drug is bad, when misused. DPR, I am ashamed for you. You constantly refute everyone and everything. Give your view to THE Banner STORY then respectfully shut the hell up. Your bashing is getting old.

kbmom - perhaps you should know what you are talking about before you open your mouth... better to let the world think you are a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.

My comment (directed at Queen53, if you can't read correctly) was mainly in reference to a comment made by Queen53 on another story in which she said that I should seek psychiatric help. (A story that involved drugs in a roundabout way.)

As for your pharma knowledge...do you want a cookie? - just about ALL drugs (both Rx and nonRx) are potentially deadly in prison or in the outside world if abused. I am not sure what your point is. The article simply says that it is a drug used to treat opioid addiction.

In this particular case, my comment was also referencing the Banner Story: prison guard caught smuggling drugs gets busted, likely going to jail himself... "take your medicine" is an old axiom about taking what's coming to you based on the choices you make...and as suboxone can be considered a "medicine" - it all ties together.

I have opinions. Sometimes they are contrary to others opinions. Sometimes I agree with people. Sometimes I even say nice things. And I believe you and I have even been on the same side of an issue once or twice. (I post on a lot of stories...)

And finally, saying "respectfully shut the hell up" is not in any way respectful. But I suppose its your attempt to gain some sort of moral high ground you otherwise lack. So with no respect towards you, but with all sincerity - have a nice day. :)
