Cause determined for Friday Washington Township home fire

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

The cause of a house fire that occurred Friday in Washington Township has been proposed after an investigation.

According to a report dictated by the Greencastle Fire Department, a dog house burned up due to a heat lamp being placed inside of it. The fire then channeled from the porch into the attic portion of the house.

Though it seems the fire damage was mostly contained to the attic, GFD said that the living areas of the house had sustained water damage.

The fire has been ruled as being accidental in this case.

The Reelsville, Greencastle, Cloverdale Township, Madison Township, Poland and Putnamville Correctional Facility fire departments were called out on a box alarm to the home at 6990 W. CR 450 South at about 10 a.m. Friday. Operation Life, the Red Cross and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department were also on the scene.

Financial damages from the fire were still unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are also still determining a cause for the barn fire at 2947 E. CR 275 South, which occurred last Thursday morning and was a total loss.
