The Putnam County Swim Team held a USA Swimming meet at the Greencastle Aquatics Center on June 22-23.

More than 70 swimmers competed in the event, including visitors from Terre Haute, Mooresville and Shelby County.

Twenty-two of the 70 swimmers were from the local team, Putnam County Swim Team.

“Our team is made up of swimmers from all four county schools,” event spokesman Jenny Riggle said. “We even have a Cloverdale swimmer even though Cloverdale doesn’t have swimming as a school sport. We had over 25 local volunteers help make sure the meet ran smoothly.”

Riggle noted the Greencastle facility was a big drawing card for the event.

“The park pool was the perfect setting for an outdoor meet,” she said. “Many Indiana USA Swimming teams do not have access to a 50-meter outdoor pool, so this meet is becoming more popular each year.”

Riggle noted the Greencastle park board and the park staff were very accommodating and allowed the group to use the pool during the morning before the pool’s regular hours.
