Join in the celebration!

Purdue University’s sesquicentennial celebration is taking place during 2019, and Purdue Extension in Putnam County is wanting to celebrate this event during the Putnam County Fair.

The theme for the 150-year celebration is “Years of Giant Leaps,” which is fitting given the footprints left by Purdue alumni throughout history. Those footprints include steps left by Neil Armstrong when he landed on the moon; John Wooden being a letterman for Purdue’s baseball team; Games Slayter, a Purdue chemist who invented fiberglass; and historic Purdue pilot Amelia Earhart.

Purdue Extension wants to celebrate these giant leaps and others by having a Purdue Trivia Night on July 24 from 4-8 p.m. in the Community Building. During this event, fairgoers can take turns testing their Purdue knowledge at our spin wheel to see what they know about Purdue University and Purdue Extension. All will get a small prize for participating in this event.

Future giant leaps cannot be made possible without a strong support system. Therefore, during the fair, we will also be collecting boxes of crayons, markers and colored pencils that we will donate to the local school corporations to support the education of future history makers. You can donate your items at either Harris Hall, the Junior Leader Concession Stand or the Community Building. Our goal is to collect 150 boxes.

Purdue Extension encourages fairgoers to help us celebrate Purdue University’s 150th anniversary and all the giant footprints left by Purdue alumni.

Contact the Extension Office by calling 653-8411 for more information regarding this week’s column topic or to RSVP for upcoming events. It is always best to call first to assure items are ready when you arrive and to RSVP for programs. While many publications are free, some do have a fee. Purdue University is an equal access/equal opportunity institution. All times listed are Eastern Time.
