High altitude balloon launch set Saturday

The 108th flight of a high altitude weather balloon by the Balloon Assisted Stratospheric Experiments program at DePauw University is set for Saturday, July 20.

The flight is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

The balloon will be released from the Blackstock Stadium area on the west side of the DePauw campus. The balloon fill is planned to start at 8:30 a.m. with the release at 8:52 a.m.

It is anticipated that the balloon will reach an altitude of 100,000 feet before bursting. The payload will return to the ground via parachute. Total flight time will be between two and three hours.
