Design chosen for Putnam County Mural Project
Putnam County’s rural heritage as well as the influence of the arts will be celebrated on one of the state’s largest murals.
After voting by community members on Friday, a design was announced on Saturday for the Putnam County Mural Project.
The silos at S & W Feed Center will be graced by a mix of agricultural scenes and musical images.
Beginning from the left (westernmost) silo, each one will feature two ears of corn, a cow and barn, a violin and trumpet and a deer buck along with a covered bridge, morel mushrooms and blueberries.
The final scene is wider than the others, as it will wrap around to the eastern edge of the final silo, more of which is visible from the intersection of U.S. 231 and Veterans Highway.
Voting occurred on Friday only, either online at www.putnamcountymuralproject.org or in person at Greencastle First Friday.
Internationally-known mural artist Andrei Krautsou, who goes by the artist name Key Detail, created both proposed designs, which he and wife Julia Yu-Baba will install.
In early July, the Putnam County Mural Project selected Key Detail to design and install the mural after six weeks of community input and a national call to artists attracted more than 70 applications.
Krautsou is a mural artist who focuses on large-scale projects, with work featured at some of the world’s most notable mural districts, as well as in international magazines and books.
When finished, the mural will be one of the largest in the state of Indiana.
