Julie R. Burns, 80, of Greencastle, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8 at St. Vincent Heart Center.

Julie was an active member of Church of Christ, Cloverdale. She was also an active member in several sewing clubs, including Home Makers Club, One Stitch at a Time, Wild & Wacky Embroidery Club and Sew Many Stitches. She was a charter member of the Indiana State Quilting Guild, in which she served many terms as an officer. She was also a past member of the Red Hat Club.

She was a local artist and ran a shop in Nashville for several years. In her past ventures she ran Julie’s Poodle Parlor and Julie’s Fairway Restaurant. She also started “Return a Gift” to help families in need. She was foster mother to many children. She was also the beloved caregiver to many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was caregiver to the elderly for many years.

She leaves behind her husband Wayne of Greencastle; children Lori Smith of Greencastle, Aaron Burns and wife Tammy of Cedar Lake and Emily Gore and husband Paul of Brownsburg; daughter-in-law Kasandra Burns; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Terry and Alan Burns.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11th at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
